DBF View - view and edit any DBF database file
Nowadays, many applications that require storing a lot of data, like names, inventory items, prices and so on, rely on DBF files for doing this. These files are actually database files compatible with the MS Access program, included in the Microsoft Office pack. Maybe you would like to view the DBF file directly, to make sure that a certain item inside of it is correctly entered, in case the application that uses the database seems to malfunction. For viewing the database, you would have to install the MS Office pack, which takes a lot of time and effort.
A much better solution would be to use a special program that can read and display DBF files. Thus, instead of installing the whole Office pack, you would only need to install a small application. An example is DBF View. You can guess what the program is about by looking at its name. It's a Windows application for reading any DBF file created with any version of MS Access.
The software is very easy to install and much simpler than MS Access, as it offers only the features required to view and edit the data contained inside a DBF file. After the user opens the desired DBF file, he will see all the data inside it as a table and will be able to edit each table entry.
After the database is finished editing, the user can save it in one of the formats supported by the program, like CSV, SQL, TXT, HTML and so on. Unfortunately, the database cannot be saved back as a DBF file. Besides working with Access database files, DBF View also supports importing CSV or XLS files and editing them in the same manner as the DBF format.
Besides saving, the user can also print the contents of the database as a regular table and can preview it prior to printing it. For making it easier to find a certain type of information, the data included in a DBF file can be filtered using various rules and there's also a search tool available.
Pros:
It can handle any DBF file created with any version of MS Access. Besides that, databases can be exported as TXT, CSV, HTML or SQL files. Furthermore, the program can import and edit CSV and XLS files as easy as DBF ones.
Cons:
The program cannot save modified databases back into the DBF format. Besides that, the trial version doesn't allow modifying the data included inside a DBF file.
DBF View is a very useful program for quickly and easily viewing and editing any DBF file, thus saving a lot of time.
